Mosaic – Part 2

Mosaic – Part 2

Music for Congregations and Choirs

Mosaic was just the beginning of Lisa’s reimagining of music for services and High Holy Days. Find her arrangements here for some of the most loved music that Congregation Micah has come to know as it’s own.

Yeish Kochavim

Lisa Silver / Michael Hunter Ochs

Behind the Song:

Lisa and Michael Hunter Ochs collaborated on this beautiful piece, and

together the long-time musical team recorded the song in Congregation Micah’s sanctuary as part of Michael’s Anthology songbook.

Mah Tovu  – The Complete Choir

Lisa Silver /  Jerry Kimbrough

Behind the Song:

A few years ago I thought I would try my hand at a new choral arrangement. I had musical motif for

the chorus and verses. Jerry Kimbrough wrote the bridge. Since 2015, it has been version of Mah Tovu  at Congregation Micah’s High Holy Days.

Lyrics by Lisa Silver

Behind the Song:

Written for the Pride Spirituality service at Congregation Micah, the song is based on the Hebrew phrase “b’tzelem Elohim” – in the image of G-d.  The image

of G-d doesn’t refer to a mirror reflection, but the 3 important human qualities: each of us has a divine spark, we are all created equal and each person has worth.

Zochreinu

Lisa Silver

Behind the Song:

Typically, a solemn and heavy request to be inscribed in the Book of Life, Zochreinu is reimagined as a joyful prayer.

In this video, Lisa is accompanied by Congregation Micah’s volunteer band, Shabbat Shaband.

Amen May It Be So

Lisa Silver

Featuring John Mock, guitar

Behind the Song:

Lisa wrote this moving piece for Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year at Congregation Micah.

If I’ve Touched Your Life

Lisa Silver & Teri Simon

Behind the Song:

Lisa wrote this moving song with Teri Simon, of blessed memory, some

years ago for the funeral of a dear friend. She has sung it now many times since for funerals, memorials and Yiskor services.

Got Blues? – Micah Kids Choir

Got Blues? – Micah Kids Choir

Fun and original songs written by Lisa Silver, Teri Simon and friends for children’s choirs and family services to brighten the celebrations of the Jewish year, released in 2003. The music has stayed as an integral part of Congregation Micah’s holiday celebrations for adults and children and as regular parts of children’s services. Many of the children’s voices on this CD are now adults – some with children of their own. At the time these songs were recorded, the Kids Choir members were between the ages of 3-10. Enjoy the Bonus Track as Lisa and some of Nashville’s professional studio musicians and sound engineers navigate working with these recording divas.

Writing for children is a complex process. These selections don’t make the mistake of speaking down to children. Musically they are sometimes more complex. Lyrically they embrace complex thoughts in simple ways that embrace a child’s view with humor, spirited and even dance-able rhythms. Discover part of what members call, “The Magic of Micah” in the Kids Choir.

From the links below, you can listen to a snippet of the song or purchase an mp3. Lisa also is offering the music ripped “From the Songbook”. The link will connect you directly with Lisa. There she can arrange to create handwritten sheet music for you. In it you will find not only the music notes and words, but also her directional notes as the choir director. Ripped from the songbook are both completely usable as sheet music or framable as art.

Kabbalat K’tan Shabbat: Welcoming Shabbat with Music

Kabbalat K’tan Shabbat: Welcoming Shabbat with Music

A Shabbat evening experience for the young and the young at heart. Using music as the 2010 vehicle to capture the essence of the liturgy in an engaging and memorable way, Kabbalat K’tan Shabbat increases familiarity with the Friday night prayer service. Lisa’s creative exploration with Jewish music continued with this collaboration with Teri Simon. Together, they reimagined a Friday night Shabbat service, combining text with music in ways children could understand.

Follow the liturgy with snippets and find links to be able to incorporate the Kabbalat K’tan Shabbat into your own service with sheet music and even karaoke sound tracks for the cantor or Soloist. In addition, you will find the link to download the Children’s Kabbalat K’tan Shabbat Siddur, featuring Lisa’s illustrations, from which you can make copies for your congregants.

You can also decide to purchase the entire Kabbalat K’tan Shabbat – complete with a copy of the siddur. Or you can purchase just the music with Lisa and the Kids Choir providing vocals. Or you can purchase Kabbalat K’tan Shabbat karaoke version!

A limited number of CDs with vocals and karaoke CDs are available for purchase. Each are $15 which includes your chosen CD and shipping and handling. Order HERE for the CD version and specify with vocals or karaoke or both.

Mosaic: Pieces of Jewish Music in New Settings

Mosaic: Pieces of Jewish Music in New Settings

Liturgical pieces and Jewish themed music in a variety of original settings. There are pieces to sing with kids, for kids, for adults, and anthems. The Nashville connection unlocks tremendous talent in the studio production and with the talent of the musicians. Lisa, however, returns to her love of incorporating children’s voices in the music. This l’dor v dor has made these versions of the liturgy a routine part of Congregation Micah’s services.

The CD features top Nashville studio musicians and a duet with Michael Hunter Ochs of Gesher.

You will be able to listen to snippets of each track of the Mosaic album and can then purchase an mp3. You will also be able to contact Lisa directly to arrange to purchase sheet music ripped From The Songbook. These are Lisa’s handwritten sheets of the songs with lyrics which you can use for your own performances or can frame as musical art.

There are a limited number of CDs available. Each can be autographed and make a wonderful gift. $15.00 covers the CD with shipping  and handling.  Let Lisa know you would like a copy HERE
